A theory...

So, you know how Ling gets turned into the new Greed? As soon as the philosopher stone was put into him, he was talking with Greed's -- spirit, I guess, since homunculi don't really have souls. Ling just gave up. To me, that seems so out of character for him that I have to think he knew something, or at least suspected, that we don't.

And then I thought... wait, from what we heard of the Fuhrer, he fought when he was turned into Wrath. And now he's unable to remember much of anything about being human, or if he had a previous life as a homunculus.

So... by giving up, does that mean that Ling somehow saved himself? Is the real Ling still in there?

Do you think my theory has any merit whatsoever, or am I just on drugs?

Actually .. that seems like a plausible theory. You have a good point there, with the Fuhrer and how he fought to become Wrath. Maybe Ling knows more about the Homunculus than he lets on? If so, then not even fighting while becoming Greed could have been an attempt to save himself, his real self.

Only time will tell, I guess. ^^; Ms. Arakawa has a way of throwing us FMA manga readers through loopholes.
And the biggest question would probably have to be... if the real Ling is still in there, then is there any way he could be saved?
Yeah, it was uncharacteristic, I agree. I guess I'm a little fuzzy with all the details (I've only read the chapters in Japanese...and don't take the time to look up every word...) but I have a feeling that Ling will probably be back sometime later.

As far as I can tell, there's still quite a bit of manga to be written, and having Ling get killed off like that is too much of a cop out. :)
